“Rejoice” |
|
This is the last sermon
in the series, Eight Spiritual Practices to Save the World. What’s spiritual about rejoicing? Everything!
It’s an essential ingredient in a life of spirit-led action to save
the world to be practiced daily, regardless of what’s happening, and at the
completion of any task, no matter how it turned out. |

Forward
in the Power of Love |
|
We’ll have a flower ceremony today, so bring flowers from
the garden, if you have one. Or borrow flowers from someone who does. Or just
show up! This intergenerational celebration will include recognition of the
winner of the Doolittle Award, presentation of Service Spotlight awards, and
kudos for our high school graduates. Let us go forward in the power of love,
as the familiar hymn invites us. The annual church barbecue is after the
service today. |

Meeting Sunday “Firm
Foundations” |
|
Henry David Thoreau
famously said, “Do not worry if you have built your castles in the air. They
are where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” We dream of a
church for the 21st century, and the time comes to establish the foundations
for it. We welcome new members this Sunday and say a formal goodbye to |

“Flowing
Toward the Future” |
|
It is
Spring and time to build a church!! Join us on Sunday 4/6/08 to celebrate who
we are and what we want our UUCM to be. There will be stories, great music,
and pictures to show the deep connections within our blessed community. And
of course FOOD: a wonderful luncheon with some of your closest friends (even
the ones you haven’t met yet). In one day you can come and
celebrate, pledge your support by filling out your pledge card, and be ready
to start a new year for UUCM. We are moving into the future and we need the
energy of all our UUCM members. So join us, one day and all done!!!! |

a Cool Planet we Share” |
|
Today’s service is an intergenerational celebration of Earth Day,
with maybe just a little about what we should be doing to keep it cool. Fun, movement, reflection, and love of our Earth
will make this a day of joy as well as a day for remembering our commitments. |

“Reflect” |
|
This is the sixth service in the
series “Eight Spiritual Practices to Save the World.” In doing the work of saving the world
keeping on a track that continues to contribute your best gifts in the best
way is vitally important. Constantly
turning to reflect on the work and its meaning is a critically important skill. |

Justice Sunday “The
Cost of Iraq: Who Pays the Price?” |
|
“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military
defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
– Martin Luther
King, Jr. In
2008, the year of the 40th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination, let us
honor his legacy by restoring justice for the people of the United States and
the people of Iraq. By standing with
other Unitarian Universalists to support the work of the Unitarian
Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), we as individuals can play a vital
role. |

wonderful examples of people who have been together from youth into old

that might work for any couple. (Children start in sanctuary). |

“Notice
Compassionately” |
|
In this third sermon on Spiritual Practices to Save the

is. It's an important practice that
makes sense even without the others.
I'm convinced: if we do these
things, the world will be saved. |

Bodhi Day “A
Gradual Awakening” |
|
Over 2,500 years ago a young prince, Siddhartha,
experienced enlight- enment.
Our Eastern neighbors continue to celebrate his awakening as Bodhi Day, the day Buddha woke up. Buddhism has permeated our culture and
informs our faith tradition. Come let us reflect on what Buddhism has to
teach us about our awakening. It is simpler than you think! |

Rumi and the Majesty of Religion |
|
The
Muslim poet, philosopher and theologian Rumi was
born 800 years ago in Turkey during the reign of the Seljuk Empire, which had
to contend with the Crusades. As a young boy, his family fled from the
Mongols. As a young man, his beloved teacher Shams was likely killed in a
plot involving Rumi’s own son. And yet Rumi’s poetry and music speaks of love on many levels and
to all people. His name literally means “Majesty of Religion.” Join us as we
celebrate the world vision in song and verse of one of the world’s most
popular poets. |

“When
Those Who Remember Are Gone” |

There's an urgency now about gathering up memories of those who
lived through the Second World War.
Today we explore what we can learn from those memories as we preserve
them. Our time together will include
special remembrance for George Blasco and Joe Case,
whose deaths were near this date. |
