SERMONS

Unitarian Universalist Church of Manchester, NH

Sundays at UUCM • 10 a.m.

May 6: OWL service | OWL class of 2012

This is the annual Youth Group service, which this year is all about Youth Empowerment. There will be a sermon done by all the youth, a Story for All Ages, a youth conference style worship, and the first ever public Bridging Ceremony of two senior youth. You do not want to miss this!

May 13: Rev Dr F. Jay Deacon on "Love"

What word is there that suffers more from overuse and abuse than the word love? And yet—You cannot read the great spiritual classics without being asked to consider this elemental Factor in the affairs of life. There is something that draws us together and draws us forward. There is at the heart of things an energy so great, so holy, so incomprehensibly grand, that it ceaselessly inspires poetry and music, acts of unaccountable bravery and sacrifice, and a hopefulness born of mere glimpses of its source and its end. And so, carefully, respectfully, I want to set that word in the largest possible context, frame it far beyond the sentimentality of the Hallmark Valentine card or popular song. The Choir sings today.

May 20: OWL service | OWL class of 2012

Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a comprehensive sexuality education program for youth that models and teaches caring, compassion, respect, and justice. The youth who have participated will share some of what they have learned this year. This service is rated PG-13. Regular religious education programming will be provided for youth in 6th grade or under.

May 27: Rev Dr F. Jay Deacon on "Soul, Soul, Soul!"

Two days ago, Mr. Emerson would have turned 209.  But the world changed the day he told the Divinity School graduating class what to do about the failure of religion and churches.  What did he have to say?  Oh, and why does the UU logo have a flame in it, and why do we light a chalice?
